Nike Footwear Award

Nike, Inc. (“Nike”) is sponsoring the eighth Nike Footwear Award presented at the 15th ISB Footwear Biomechanics Technical Group meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden in conjunction with the 2021 ISB Congress. The $5,000 award continues Nike’s leadership in driving footwear innovation for athletic performance, protection, and perception.

The Nike Sport Research Lab invites researchers to submit a manuscript containing original* material in the field of footwear biomechanics focused on but not limited to:

    • Detecting movement similarities and differences between genders

    • Identifying footwear performance differences in unconstrained settings

    • Understanding footwear requirements for a range of athleticism from recreational to elite

To submit your work for the award, there are two submission steps:

    1. Submit full manuscripts directly to FootwearAward@nike.com no later than May 1, 2021. Manuscript preparation details can be found below. Finalists will be identified by an independent panel of experts and given the opportunity to present at the Footwear Symposium from which the winner will be announced. Finalists must be present at the Symposium to receive the award.
    2. Submit your abstract directly to the symposium following FBS guidelines; this is your meeting submission and enables the work to be reviewed and accepted if it is not an award finalist.

The judging criteria are as follows:

1. Manuscript:

      • Scientific merit

      • Relevance and contribution to footwear science and Nike

      • Quality

2. Presentation:

      • Content and quality

      • Ability to answer audience questions

Preparation of the Manuscript

Language: Manuscript must be written in English.

Format: Manuscript must follow the instructions and requirements for authors of the journal “Footwear Science”. Instructions can be found here. All references must be collected in a separate section at the end of the manuscript.

Length: Manuscript must not exceed 10 typewritten pages of text and should not exceed 20 pages including figures and tables.

Page Size: US letter size or European A4 size. All margins (Top, Bottom, Left, and Right) must be 1 inch (2.5 cm).

Line Spacing: 1.5
Font: Times New Roman, size 11.
